Available in many different sizes, Envelopes can contain a variety of materials. Digital Envelopes are ideal for shorter runs, such as invitations, birthday or holiday cards, or special promotions. Keep in mind that Digital Envelopes can be printed with a maximum of 40% ink coverage and can only be printed on the front, and can not include bleed. Be sure to allow room for addressing and postage. If you would like to print additional content on the Envelopes after receiving them, such as addresses, you should not experience any issues as long as your printer is less than 400 ° F.
The most common order options are #10 Regular Envelopes (9.5" x 4.125") on #24 Classic Crest Writing bond weight paper and are designed to match the company letterhead. They always print in full colour on one side (4/0) and do not have coating. #10 Envelopes fit standard 8.5" x 11" letterhead folded in thirds.
Note: Due to differences in the printing process, colors on Offset and Digital Envelopes are unlikely to be a perfect match with each other.

FAQ's - Envelopes - Full Colour Digital Printing
Can my artwork go right to the edge of the envelope?
The machine that these envelopes are printed on needs to be able to grip the envelope, and also requires a margin on all four edges. Also, the envelopes are received from the supplier pre-manufactured (already die-cut and glued into an envelope). For these two reasons, artwork cannot go right to the edge of the envelopes and a white border is required. This white border should be a minimum of 0.5" or 1/2" from each edge.
Are there special margin requirements for Digital Envelopes?
As mentioned above, the machine itself requires a minimum of 0.5" or 1/2" of margin on all edges. The same amount of margin should be left around the window (if applicable)
Can I print on the back of the Envelope?
Currently, Digital Envelopes can only be printed on the front, not on the back. The back of the envelope would include the flap.
What is Artline?
Arline is also commonly known as "Security Printing", and refers to the random pattern printed on the inside of envelopes. This is used to obscure the content and prevent it from being read through the envelope and is frequently used for confidential documents or cheques. Envelopes with Artline are sometimes called "Cheque Envelopes", though they can be used for any application where the content needs to remain private.
Which envelopes should I choose if I am also ordering Greeting Cards?
If you are looking to order Blank Envelopes, these can be selected during the configuration of your Greeting Card, and will automatically match the size of the card selected.
If printed envelopes are required, the sizing would be as follows:
A2: Used with 4.25"x5.5" or 5.5"x4.25" Greeting Cards.
A6: Used with 4"x6" or 6"x4" Greeting Cards.
A7: Used with 5"x7" or 7"x5" Greeting Cards.
Full Colour Envelopes - Artwork Guidelines
Artwork Guidelines
It is required to have 1/16” overbleed and colour wrap onto the back of the envelope to allow for movement throughout the bindery process. It is normal for the artwork on the finished envelopes to vary slightly from one piece to another because of movement during the run and could vary up to 1/8”. As a result of the intensive bindery processes, die-cutting, scoring, folding and gluing (ie. converting), the colour wrap and overbleed may not be even on all sides.
Newprint Templates
To produce envelopes at the highest quality possible, artwork that has bleed on the face or print on any flap is required to be placed on Newprint's envelope template. This will ensure that the artwork layout is aligned the way it is intended to print and be converted.
How to generate full-colour envelope templates
1. Go to Newprint's
full-colour envelopes page.
2. Choose your envelope options.
3. Once you have selected all the options, you can download AI, IDML or PDF templates. These templates will match the product options you have previously selected.
